Carry on Carrying On

I weighed-in yesterday and remained the same. I predicted I probably would due to being in the middle of my cycle. Still, there's always disappointment when I don't lose. My good friend Kelly called to ask me how the weigh-in went and when I told her I stayed the same she said, "Great!". Her enthusiasm reminded me I was worried about a gain due to my cycle and not having worked out as much during most of the week. So I cheered up a bit, glad not to have gained.

I went to the gym afterward and was irritated by a congested feeling in my chest. I was able to workout fine but it just irritated the heck out of me. I felt like I needed to cough to clear it out but coughing did no good. I did the Couch-to-5k Week 2 and it was definitely a challenge. I made it through and that always feels like a big accomplishment.

By the end of weight training I felt beat. I came home and made myself a salad with mixed spring greens, tuna, tomatoes, mushrooms, avocado and fat-free caesar dressing. It was very good. I'm going to sleep well tonight.

I'm Back!

I went to the gym last night planning to do another modified cardio session but with an inkling that I might be able to do more. I got on the elliptical and started going. I felt fine so I decided to go for it! I did 15 on the elliptical and took a crack at the Couch-to-5k. I was on Week 2 and thought, with being sick, I might have to go back to Week 1. I decided to try Week 2 and, yay! I was able to do it. It wasn't a cake-walk but I got through it. I then hopped on the upright bike for 10 minutes and burned a total of over 500 calories, my target. Yay! I'm back! I did lower body weight-training but ran out of time. I couldn't finish my whole routine but now I know I can do my regular gym routine. It's so weird how I got worried I wouldn't be able to come back. Old habits, old fears, I didn't want them to creep in and derail me and they didn't. It feels good to weather a storm.

Now I'm in the midst of my feminine cycle and that might cause a gain or for me to stay even in my weight this week. Plus I've not worked out as much as before I was sick. Still, I have a bit of hope I might lose a tad. We'll see. I weigh in tomorrow and I'll be sure to let y'all know.

I want to end on an up note. I'm not sick! Yay!!

Just Do It @ Point Reyes

I blab on and on all the time about wanting to get out there and do stuff. Well, today we did! We picked a trek out of my Marin Mountain Biking book. It started at Point Reyes Bear Valley Visitors Center. First a 3.5 mile "easy" mountain bike leg on a fire road. There was a pretty steady incline about 1/2 way through that I couldn't survive. I had to get off my bike and walk for a few hundred feet (that wasn't fun ). At 3.5 miles we parked the bikes and hiked a mile out to see the ocean. Hiked backed for a total of a 2 mile hike and then rode back 3.5 miles to the visitor center. The ride back was stupendous, I was grinning ear to ear the whole time and just having a grand ol' time. I made it up a pretty steep little incline (steeper but shorter than the one on the way in) by standing while pedaling. It felt so good riding back. Max speed was about 16 miles per hour at one point. Wheeeee!

I have to share pics. These are from the lookout point we hiked to. Enjoy!

Here I am next to the ocean:

And with Miguel:

By the time we got home (about a 40 minute drive) I was feeling chilly and a tad sore so I hopped in a hot bath. I'll sleep well tonight I'm sure. Anyway, what a day!! Honestly, I have the best husband. He was so encouraging and just plain fun to be with. Hope everyone here is out having fun adventures too!
