Oooouch @ SF Giants

So far this week I went to the gym Wednesday and yesterday (Friday). Yesterday was the first time I've done legs in weight training since March 13th, so 15 days. I'm feeling the pain today. My calves are sore, my quads are sore. It's all sore. I'm going to pass on the gym today and go tomorrow for the start of a new week. I'm going to be starting Week 4 of the c25k program and am, shall we say, apprehensive about the 5 minute jogs. I know I will succeed as long as I stick with it.

I went into SF last night for a Giants game. It was quite chilly and misting/raining most of the game. It was a good time but I ate way too much! I had Garlic Fries and a Hot Dog at the game, plus about 2 beers. Afterward we went to a Salvadoran restaurant and I had 1.5 pupusas (they were pretty big!), 1/2 of a pastelito, and part of an enchilada (which looked more like a small tostada). It was all very good but I was way over-stuffed and I don't want to know how many calories it all was. I'll be eating pretty close to my Points for the rest of the week.

On the way home I saw a sign advertising the SF Marathon in August! That's the one that has a 5k option which is my goal to run. Even at doing each week twice I should have plenty of time to finish the Couch-to-5k program by then. That even allows for a few extra repeat weeks if needed, or sick weeks, which I sincerely hope to not have any more of.

Today I'm going to look at bikes (again). There are two bikes I plan to check out today and I might make a decision today. I'll definitely be posting pics of my bike ASAP if I get one!

Slump City

After I miss a few days at the gym I start to get down. A few more days and my thinking gets negative and my mood turns glum. I start to think I'll never get back to the gym and that I'm destined to be overweight and out of shape. I start to dread going back to the gym. Miguel and I have named this irritable, negative state as being in a slump. You guessed it, I had a slump.

It started with my getting sick again. I was hoping to start back to the gym this past weekend but it didn't happen. I wasn't feeling good enough. I finally decided today was the day. I haven't been to the gym in 13 days. It was do or die time. Well, not quite that dramatic but you get the point. I made it (yay!) and things went alright. I was coughing a bit during cardio and the upright bike was downright tough, but I did 50 minutes total cardio and burned 500 calories.

That included my Couch-to-5k program. I'm still doing Week 3, which, after the 5 minute warm-up walk, looks like this:
-90 second jog (5.0mph)
-90 second recovery walk (3.7mph)
-3 minute jog (5.0)
-3 minute recovery walk (3.7)
-90 second jog (5.0)
-90 second recovery walk (3.7)
-3 minute jog (5.0)
-3 minute recovery walk (3.7)

This was my 7th day of doing the Week 3 program. The 3 minute jogs weren't easy but I got through them. I did upper body weight training after and left the gym pooped. I'm going to switch to Week 4 next week. Week 4 starts with the 5 minute warm-up walk and then looks like this:
-3 minute jog
-90 second recovery walk
-5 minute jog (!!)
-2.5 minute recovery walk
-3 minute jog
-90 second recovery walk
-5 minute jog (again?!)

Wow, I've got a couple of challenges in store for me.

On the fun front I got to wear one of my new shirts. I wore the purple one that says UnderArmor across the chest. It's a little shorter than the others so when lifting my arms my tummy shows. Eek! Fortunately when my arms are up my tummy seems somewhat flat so it's not too horrendous :)

So I have a confession. I haven't been tracking my eating since I got sick. I haven't tracked a full day since Tahoe, almost 2 weeks ago now. Tomorrow is when my Weight Watchers week starts over so I'm going to start tracking again. I have paid attention to my eating, but I can't be sure if I've been in my Points range. I'll see how this shows up in the scale tomorrow. I'll have to wear my lightest weighing clothes :)

New Stuff!

I love shopping online. First, you get the fun of picking out your stuff. Then, a week or so later you get the fun of having your stuff show up in the mail, like presents! Presents that you paid for, but still, it's fun.

So a while back (I always pick the cheapest shipping!) I ordered some tops from Under Armour. I found one I loved in the store and had to have it in more colors, blue and dark red to be exact. Here they are...

I love them because the sleeves are long enough to cover the icky parts of my upper arms. And the material is the most awesome quick drying cotton-like synthetic. Nice for someone who sweats a lot during cardio.

But to get free shipping I had to spend another $15, so I bought a cute purple shirt that I hoped would have long enough sleeves too. And it did. Maybe I'll post a pic of it when I wear it to the gym.

But that's not all. I found a great sports bra at a Fleet Feet, a running store in San Anselmo. Of course, one can't live with only one sports bra. So I purchased it in green too. Moving Comfort, Melbourne.

Aren't they cute?? Now I can't wait until I'm feeling good enough to head back to the gym, which I have a feeling will be tomorrow. No better way to start the week than hitting the gym in new gym clothes!!

A New Home for my Blog

Up until now I've been blogging at MuscleTank

The problem is, their site goes down sometimes and I'm worried it might go down one day and not come back up. So I copied all my posts here and some pictures too. I want to make sure I don't lose my entries or stats.

It's going around...

A slight cough started on Saturday night. By Sunday night I was coughing a lot and generally sick. I took Monday off. I hobbled in to work on Tuesday for a few hours but felt foggy headed and drained. Wednesday morning I dragged myself to the doctor with 102° fever and serious body aches. The doctor ruled out influenza but diagnosed Bronchitis, possibly Pneumonia, and prescribed some antibiotics. I've been laying around feeling sorry for myself ever since. It's Friday and I'm coming out of it.

By the way, is it ever not going around? Every time you're sick everyone says this. It's pretty much always going around isn't it?

I went to my WW meeting last night. I knew two weeks without a meeting plus being sick might just lead to my falling off the wagon. I'm glad I went. I lost .2 pounds this week. Not surprising given I've not exercised and have not eaten according to plan. I hope to be able to exercise by next week.

I hate being sick. I'm sick of it. I hope everyone else is doing better than I am!
